Ohio Means Jobs in both Allen and Hancock counties has invested money in improvements towards employee skill sets.

Thursday, two organizations presented a $25,000 check to GROB Systems that will be used for employees to broaden their skill sets through GROB's apprentice program. Joe Patton believes programs like the worker training program at GROB will help retain employees longer.

"Companies need skills and the best skills they could provide you are the skills that they could train within their organization. Then you are trained specifically what you are doing within GROB. It’s more effective that way and it makes it a good fit for the company and it helps the company with retention and long-term employees," said Joe Patton, Director, Ohio Means Jobs Allen County.

"As time progresses everything gets more and more technical, things are constantly changing especially with this field.  With PLC’s and HMI’s and robotics and things, CNC’s, everything is constantly changing.  Technology is constantly improving and so to keep our employees, up to date and up to speed, is very very important," said Mike Fuerst, Lead Training Supervisor.

This worker training program is focused on continuing training for 2nd year GROB apprentices to match their skill set to the constant advancement of technology.
