Families in Wapakoneta took time out of their weekend to learn how to keep calm and put their helmets on!

Parents brought their kids out to the 10th annual Bicycle Safety Day to make sure kids as safe as they can be when they are on their bikes. From a crash course in maneuvering to bike inspections families got a well-rounded lesson in riding, but the biggest thing taken away was the importance of the proper headgear.

"Everyone's here to get a free bicycle helmet and they're fitted on each child to make sure that when they walk out of here they have the right helmet that's right for them," says Bicycle Safety Day organizer Marlene Froning. "It's not about the color, it's not about the style, it's all about the fit."

While most of the kids were just excited to have fun on their bikes, parents appreciated the lengths their community goes to keep kids safe on the roads.

"This is awesome, didn't even know this existed and they offer it for all the areas and I think that's a great cause," says parent Amy Dieringer. "We just want to make sure that in case they fall or a car's coming, that they have properly fitted helmets so they don't get brain injuries."

If you missed Bicycle Safety Day don't worry! Froning fits helmets all year round. Just call the Wapak Police or Fire Department and ask for Marlene Froning.
