Allen County Assistant Prosecutor Terri Kohlrieser might be sitting on the bench a bit earlier than expected.

After winning the Republican nomination for common pleas court judge with no opposition to face in the November election, Judges Jeffrey Reed and David Cheney plan to hire Kohlrieser as a magistrate. The judges met with county commissioners today to ask for funding to help pay Kohlrieser's salary for August through December. With their $10,000, they are looking to reach somewhere near $30,000. The idea is that Kohlrieser can cut down on conflicts that could arise and she could also gain valuable experience.

The alternative is to let Kohlrieser continue prosecuting and deal with the conflicts of interest when she takes the bench by hiring a visiting judge, which could become costly for the county.
