Several local organizations came together Saturday afternoon to help kids learn about bike safety.

The bike rodeo involved bike and helmet fitting stations, helping kids learn how to control riding their bikes, and information provided by area agencies, bringing the entire family together to learn more about how to ride bikes in a safe way.

Those who helped to organize the event say that it's always good for people to start getting active, especially with summer not far away.

"It’s good to see that more people, and children especially, are utilizing bicycles and being active, as we really want to encourage people to use their 'human power' in active transportation," said Josh Unterbrink, co-director for Activate Allen County. "Bicycling isn't for everybody, so we want to encourage people that if you can’t ride a bike, make sure you're using those rollerblades, skateboards, whatever it might be, to be out there, be active, and be connected to our community."

Free helmets and food were also given out as part of the event.
