Two Lima Memorial groups awarded four area graduates $1,500 scholarships to pursue a degree in the medical field.

Delphos Jefferson graduate Sarah Miller and Kalida High School graduate Jacob Kahle received scholarships from the Lima Memorial Auxiliary while the Lima Memorial School of Nursing Alumnae awarded scholarships to Bluffton High School graduate Karis Wilson and Meghan Ream of Delphos Jefferson. They join the list of almost 60 other local students the groups have helped follow the path to a medical career over the past 28 years.

"They have chosen a new career for them, a new page in their life, on their journey, and they want to go into the health field," says Bonnie Shook, chairperson of the Scholarship Selection Committee. "The medical field is so prominent these days and we certainly need young people to step into those careers."

Wilson and Ream will both be pursuing nursing degrees while Kahle hopes to one day become a doctor. Miller will use the scholarship to work towards an occupational therapy degree from Ohio State University.

"I've always really wanted to help people and occupational therapy just gives me the opportunity to do that," says Miller. "I really want to work with pediatric kids and helping them do daily activities and regaining their strength is just something really awesome."

The hospital also awarded the Lima Memorial Volunteer Scholarship to Columbus Grove graduate Hannah Roof. Columbus Grove senior Madison Wiseman was also recognized as the 2017 Volunteen of the Year.
