A man pleaded guilty to stealing a Jeep and leading police on chase in Auglaize County

A man who stole a Jeep and lead police on a chase in Auglaize County has changed his plea in court this week.

38 year old Christopher Thornton, of Phillipsburg Ohio, has pleaded guilty to the charges of theft, fleeing and eluding and endangering children.  According to the Saint Marys Police  Department, on April 19th one of their officers was alerted that someone stole a jeep from a business.  The officer couldn't stop the vehicle and Thornton lead law enforcement on a chase that lasted around 20 miles, before they deployed stop sticks to blow the tires on the jeep.  It was unknown to officers at the time, but Thornton had a 10 year old child, that was related to him, in the jeep.  Judge Fredrick Pepple ordered a pre-sentence investigation. No sentencing date has been set.
