The goal is to make sure area youngsters get a hot meal most weekdays during the summer.

The Lima City Schools' Summer Lunch Program kicked off today. Last year, the free lunch program fed on average 450 children a day. Any child between the ages of 1 year and 18 years old can come to any of the sites to get a meal. On today's menu - hot dogs, baked beans, watermelon, veggies, fruit, chips, and milk. The program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture and is open to any and all children.

Lunches are available from 11 am to 12:30 pm Mondays through Thursdays at the following sites: Heritage, Independence, and Unity Elementary Schools, along with Liberty Arts Magnet and South Science and Technology schools.

The program will run through August 2nd. Take note that no meals will be served on July 4th and 5th.
