There was a lot of talk, but there was very little action coming from Lima's Safety Services Committee meeting tonight.

This is the third meeting that the committee has held to discuss an independent agency to review complaints against the Lima Police Department. Currently, the department does their own internal investigation into citizen complaints. The Lima Chapter of the NAACP first brought up the idea to look at complaints of excessive force or abuse of authority by an outside agency. But after three meetings of mostly dialogue, the first resolution on the issue was approved by the committee for the Lima City law director to look into how other cities handle complaints against their own police officers and who handles those investigations.

"We want to make sure we look at this, and we want to make sure we make the right decision. We don’t need to make a quick decision. When I proposed this 3 months ago, I explained to them over and over that this is going to take time,” said Derry Glenn, 6th Ward Councilman.

Glenn also expressed frustration that the Lima Police Department still doesn't have body cameras for their officers, council approved their purchase over a year ago. He says the body cams would go hand and hand with a possible independent agency reviewing officer complaints.
