The Allen County Democrats are gearing up for their campaigns during their annual summer picnic.

One person that pumped the crowd up for November election was the Democratic candidate for Ohio treasurer Rob Richardson. Richardson laid out a few plans that he would enact if elected, which include investing more jobs through infrastructure improvements and high-speed broadband access to people who can’t afford it. But he also has a plan to invest in the future of Ohio’s graduates by tackling a couple of issues they are facing.

“Right now the state is number one for student debt in the entire nation. So we are going to use this office to provide low-interest loans and also to refinance current student loans that are out there, for graduates that are willing to stay. It’s going to make us more competitive as a state and grow and create more opportunities," said Rob Richardson, Democratic Candidate for Treasurer.

Janet Garrett is making another run as the Democratic candidate for 4th district congressional seat. As she has been traveling the district campaigning, one thing on the minds of voters is the opioid problem and how the federal government needs to step up more to combat the problem.

“The federal government has given out what amounts to a pittance to address this issue. To me, it’s issue number one because there are people dying every day in Ohio. So we really got to ramp up our efforts to address that," said Janet Garrett, Democratic Candidate, 4th District Congressional Seat.

Garrett will be taking on Jim Jordan for the 3rd time for the congressional seat, Richardson will be facing Findlay state representative Robert Sprague in the November election.
