A group of volunteers in Spencerville had a chance to showcase their months of hard work today that will soon impact local veterans. Our intern Heidi Paxson has more.

One member of the group is Pastor Steve Johnson of United Church of Christ. He had never created a quilt before until the mission of Cindy's Seamsters touched his heart.

"It just kind of came over, because you're creating this for a veteran and I've never met the veteran but I owe my freedoms to what these men and women have done."

Cindy of Cindy's Seamsters says that the group has handmade 59 blankets in total. She tells us that each design is different and unique because it's important that the veterans receive something special from the community.

"I've seen them cry, I've seen them kiss the blanket. I think it's just very important for them to feel like somebody cared for them."

Cindy says she is very thankful for the VFW who funds the quilting projects.

Local hospice workers, see the impact that these quilts can make.

"It's a comfort, you know, we want to make the last days of their lives, and that can be up to six months, to have comfort and to have a better quality of life."

Right now, Cindy's Seamsters has ten volunteers but they welcome the community to help out Wednesday nights from six to eight p.m. in the basement of United Church of Christ.
