Not that long ago, the concept of a medical operation being done using a robot sounded like something out of science fiction. Tuesday, a Lima doctor and general surgeon, completed his 1,000th surgery using Da Vinci Robotic technology.

Dr. Jeremy Heffner began performing robotic surgeries at Lima Memorial in 2013. Then, in 2016, Dr. Heffner and Lima Memorial were selected to be a designated site for the Da Vinci Robotic Mentor Program, bringing surgeons and administrators from across the nation to observe how he uses the technology to treat patients.

“This really is an example of what we can accomplish here in Lima. That we can lead a field or be the cutting edge of technology and advancement. and that it doesn’t have to be something that only occurs in the major cities or the major hospitals, like Ohio State. We can do this right here in Lima itself. Also, the community has been very supportive, including the Lima Memorial Foundation,” said Dr. Heffner.

After hitting the milestone, Dr. Heffner says he looks forward to continuing to advance general surgery procedures, through the Da Vinci robotic technology.
