The new school year is just around the corner and there is a plan to help parents and teachers cover the cost of supplies.

From what goes in your kid's book bag to what goes in their locker, back to school time can get pricey. From August 3rd to 5th, you do not have to spend an arm and a leg to get everything your children need to start the year off right.

"The state has decided to wave the taxes on back to school items," says Mark Campbell, Store Director of the Elida Rd. Meijer. "School supplies, instructional supplies for school, clothing for school, all tax-free this weekend. This is the time. The selection is as good as it's going to get this year. There's great, great variety. The prices are as good as they're going to get all year."

On top of the back to school sales already going on, shoppers can save an extra 6.75% on their school supplies. While it may not seem like a huge number, once you add in the cost of clothing and other extras, that percentage turns into a good chunk of savings.

"When it comes down to it, the more you spend obviously the higher the tax, so it can be a big amount, up to $10, 15, 20 dollars off of what you're buying," says Shana Evans, who was shopping for school supplies for her son. "It doesn't seem like a lot at the time but overall if you go to five different places it's a big chunk of what you're paying. With tax-free, and then it looks like they have 25% off a lot of items right now, so the big yellow signs are what attract me more than anything."

The Tax-Free Weekend runs from Thursday to Sunday night at midnight.
