A group of families came together in downtown Lima Saturday morning to join mothers around the world in advocating breastfeeding.

The event is held around the world, where mothers spend three minutes breastfeeding their babies at the same time. In Lima, the Allen County WIC and the Lima Chapter of the Le Leche League put on the event, which ended with the families paying a visit to the Children's Park.

Those with the Le Leche League say that the event is to show that breastfeeding is just a normal fact of life.

"It’s really to bring normalization to breastfeeding anywhere - in public, at home, on a beach, in a store, and making sure that people don’t have to worry about if a mom comes in and breastfeeds her child in a restaurant," said Debby Schymanski.

"We want to bring culture back to how used to be before the 1950s before people stopped breastfeeding," said Beth Wilson.

According to Big Latch On, nearly 18 thousand children breastfed for the event last year.
