Allen County Bike and Pedestrian Task Force conducted a training for walking audits.

During the group's monthly meeting, the participants learned that a walking audit is an evaluation of a street or intersection and seeing what makes it easy for active transportation. Wednesday's audit was a practice run for people to learn the ropes. Area's they want to focus on in the future would be parts of Market St., Metcalf St. and Cable Rd. Chairperson Josh Unterbrink said the purpose is because they want people to be safe and healthy and people often need active transportation to get where they need.

"This is our first time doing this type of walking audit and it really gets people on the ground assessing their environment," Unterbrink said. "We're looking for citizens, average Joe's and Jane's to come out, walk up and down a block. It takes about 20 minutes to do one of these assessments and that information is really valuable."

The hope is to submit the audits to the county engineer to be included in any future planning.
