A little piece of military history flew its way into the Allen County Airport this afternoon.

Four rare World War II bomber and fighter planes are making a stop in Lima and giving a WWII experience you will never forget. This is part of the Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom tour and is an interactive flying memorial for the WWII veterans. Several veterans came out to see the aircraft similar to what they once flew.

Air Force veteran, Gerald Schneider says, "What I worked on was 67 ago. I didn't think I'd ever see them again."

Air Force veteran, Don Dahlke says it brings back memories.

Some people heard the event in the skies and wanted to get a closer look.

Joel Burke says, "I was at Sam's Club getting in my car and I hear the sounds of a WWII bomber flying over."

Participating in the Wings of Freedom tour include a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, Consolidated B-24 Liberator, B-25 Mitchell, and North American P-51 Mustang. These planes were known for their ability to sustain damage and still accomplish the mission.

"I flew it in 54 missions, says Don Dahlke.

Gerald Schneider says, "They were a flying machine. I flew everywhere with them."

Visitors were welcomed to explore the aircraft inside and out. They make stops in 110 cities every year. The tour will be in Lima until August 10th.
