A Revolutionary War soldier gets honored for his efforts in helping this country become independent.

Because of a rainy Saturday morning, The Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution was forced to move their memorial service inside for Israel Hubbard Junior.  Hubbard died in 1840 and was buried in a family plot in rural farmland north of Pandora.  The Society was contacted about Hubbard’s grave site being under disrepair and they worked to make it a lasting reminder of his service.

Organizers say paying respect to Hubbard and the other soldiers that fought in the Revolutionary War are important because we wouldn’t be here today without them.

David Lupien, NW Dist. Chairman for The Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, says  “The other reason is to remember, from the past to the present, our history is always with us.  This man today that we honored was at the surrender of Burgoyne at the battle of Saratoga.  And that makes it real, not just reading it in a book and that is why we do it.”

The Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution says while they were working on the monument for Hubbard, they have learned of other Revolutionary war soldiers that they will be looking at honoring around Putnam and in the Bluffton Area.
