Oldest Festival in Ohio

The Pioneer Days celebration is taking place this weekend, filling the streets of downtown Kalida.

Rides and food concessions drew in crowds this Saturday, and all of the funds that are raised stay in the community.

Throughout the weekend, there is tractor pulls, parades, and also historians that explain the history of Kalida and the surrounding area.

Jason Birkemier, who was working the event, finds it important to give back to the community. The funds benefit multiple organizations but the one closest to his heart is the local fire department.

"They volunteer here in Kalida so it's important that we show them support because they volunteer their hours of work and labor to protect us. So at the end of the day it's a small community coming together and building each other up," says Birkemeier.

The festival runs tomorrow until 7 p.m.. For a full list of the events, visit pioneerday.com.
