The Auglaize County Historical Society is working to keep the community's knowledge of local history on the right track.

An open house was held today at the former Western Ohio Electric Railway car barns. The railway once connected local towns such as Minster, St. Mary's, Celina, and Wapakoneta. The route eventually started traveling to some of Ohio's major cities. This made it an important method of transportation for the community of Auglaize County.

Anthony Diegel, whose brother was one of the last of the operative crew members of the former Spencerville and Elgin railroad, says that it's important to preserve the history of the railroad.

"History is in its preservation, a one-shot deal, if you don't catch it, it is gone," says Diegel.

The open house was a part of the Open doors series that ends on September sixteenth. Visit Ohio History dot org if you are interested in exploring your town's heritage. All Ohio Open Doors events are free and open to the public.
