A piece of state-owned property could possibly be turned over to Allen County if it would be cost effective.

There is already a memorandum of understanding between the Allen County commissioners and the State of Ohio for property on North West Street. It once housed District One of the Ohio Department of Transportation and is now used by Allen County for a variety of needs. Tuesday, the executive director of the North Central Ohio Solid Waste District talked to commissioners about the possibility of building a new facility on a portion of this land if the county decides to take possession of the property.

The District Office is currently leasing space in a building that is up for sale. Commissioners have also discussed using a portion of the property for storage purposes for the engineer's office. The state would do what is called a governor's deed to hand the property over to the county. It would then become the full responsibility of the county.
