It's the heart of Allen County's economy and we need to foster its operations. That from Lima Mayor David Berger at his weekly briefing as this week is recognized as Manufacturing Week.

In a proclamation Wednesday, Berger states that more than 8,800 residents are employed in manufacturing and according to statistics from the State of Ohio, the average weekly salary is just over $1,300. The West Central Ohio Manufacturing Consortium states that more manufacturing jobs are being created as more industries decide to build and expand in the region.

"The recent news about General Dynamics increasing its workforce by 4 to 5 hundred people in the next two and a half years, Proctor & Gamble just recently completed an expansion, there are a lot of other lower keyed expansions going on all over Lima and Allen County. And then just in the surrounding counties, you got a new paper milling plant going up in Wapakoneta, a major expansion at PRO-TEC in Leipsic, and numerous other examples around the West Central Ohio region," said Doug Durliat, Director at West Central Ohio Manufacturing Consortium.

Durliat encourages people to get the training needed to apply for these well-paying jobs.
