A small plane traveling from Michigan to Kentucky was forced to make an emergency landing just north of the Putnam County Airport.

The single-engine plane was forced to land in a field near the intersection of Roads 5-F and H, just northeast of Ottawa, after losing its engine and ability to radio. There were no injuries immediately reported by the two women and one man on board and the plane only sustained minimal damage.

Putnam County got an emergency message from the Toledo control towers around 11:20 am reporting and that there was a plane operating with no engine that would have to make an emergency landing. Sheriff Brian Siefker says the next thing is to get the plane out of the field and over to the airport.

"Our plans are to put it on some type of rollback tow truck and tow it to the airport and put it inside and take it from there," says Siefker. "The pilot did an excellent job landing this plane."

The Federal Aviation Administration has sent someone up from Columbus to assist in the investigation.
