Monday was the first day for this year's mentoring program between Lima Senior High School and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The Spartan 360 program brings in students from the high school to Unity Elementary to mentor students. This year, the program involves the Early Childhood program, the Patient Care students, and now the Automotive Technology students in the program as mentors. The mentors focus on learning activities to help build social and emotional skills, a great opportunity for both the younger and older students.

"It’s really great to see, because a lot of times the younger kids have questions for high school, what it’s like, and these kids are preparing to go to college, so they can tell the little ones about that and what to expect," said Kitty Kill, School-Based Mentoring Specialist for Big Brothers Big Sisters. "They have something to look forward to, and they have a little who they know is counting on them to help them with their schoolwork, and just having a good time."

The program is a win for the older students, who are getting practice in for their future careers.

"I’m going to learn more than when I would just at college; like for children with ADHD, I'll know how to properly create lesson plans around them and we actually have the chance to go in and actually get that experience before college," said Meaghan Hittle, a senior at Lima Senior.

This is the second year for the Spartan 360 program.
