As we get into the thick of the fall season, more deer will start appearing on the roadways.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Alec Coil said it's due to a few reasons. This time of year is the mating season for deer. As crops are harvested they will attempt to relocate and he added that hunting season may affect them as well. For drivers, Coil suggests driving at a reasonable speed for the conditions and use your high beams on those two-lane roads at night. Overall he suggests to be aware and maintain control of your vehicle.

"You want to avoid swerving, especially into oncoming traffic," Coil said. "Maintain your awareness of the overall picture of where you're at as far as traffic coming at you, things on the side of the road like woods, big trees, houses, maybe kids, things like that."

Coil said a deer crash can cause anywhere from minor damage to a fatal crash.

"A lot of times it may not be a significant damage as far as big picture when it comes to damage at the front of your car, but what may happen is the deer could cause the airbag modules to activate and you could be injured by your airbag."

Deer gun hunting season begins on Nov. 26.
