Today is National Walk to School Day and this year the City of Delphos took part in it.

Delphos Schools and Delphos St. John's students had the opportunity to walk or ride their bike to school and were greeted throughout the city by police officers, firefighters, and city officials. The Allen County Creating Healthy Communities Program is working with the schools to create safer walking routes. Mayor Josh Gillespie read a proclamation for the day and wants to make sure residents take the extra safety precautions, such as slowing down, when around schools.

"It's important for a couple of different reasons. "A" just for the kids' health and make sure they're out getting exercise. A second reason is to help control air pollution and air congestion and another is just to make sure that traffic safety is a concern as well," says Gillespie.
