National Chemistry Week is Oct. 21 to the 27, but Dr. Swathi Mohan came over from Ohio State-Lima a bit early to teach the students. For the last 4 years, Mohan has helped students put on experiments at Bath Elementary during chemistry week and this is her first year with the 2nd graders at Elmwood. They focused on space exploration and building mini rockets. Mohan said astronomy will soon be included in the STEM field.

"To get it early on will be a major advantage because that's when they are very curious," Mohan said, professor of chemistry. "They are eager to learn what is out there, learn new things. We see that if they start early they tend to carry it on in middle school or high school."
