Local businesses learn about disaster preparedness

Local business owners from around the area got a lesson on disaster preparedness.

Swartz Contracting and Emergency Services hosted their first Disaster Preparedness Symposium at the Howard Johnson hotel. They brought in speakers to cover a variety of different topics like IT security protection, active shooter training, and crisis management. They also had first responders speak on how they can collaborate with each other to ensure the best protection of their businesses.

"The local fire department wants to know what chemicals are being used, how many employees there are, how big the facility is, how to get in, how to get out," said Bath Township Fire Chief Joe Kitchen. "That's all valuable information in the event of an emergency."

Kitchen says having disaster preparedness plans in place with local emergency services could be the difference between having to fix minimal damage, to having a total loss situation.
