Lima Memorial is helping high school students explore what future they could have in the medical field.

The hospital hosted their first  Career Exploring open house to introduce students from around the area to all the unique opportunities that await them in the medical field. Across five sessions, students will take a hands-on approach to learn about careers like physical therapy and emergency room work to help give them some direction as they begin looking into life after high school.

"As a high school student it's hard sometimes to figure out what you want to do as a career so we wanted to highlight different areas of the hospital to hopefully make it easier for them to make a decision if they are thinking about going into the healthcare field," said Kristin Purdy, an HR Generalist at Lima Memorial.

Some of the students who came out area hoping the series will help them zero in on a fulfilling career, whether it's the typical paths or not.

"It'll give you more knowledge of what's out there," said Ottoville sophomore Beth Moorman, 16. "People just always hear about the big stuff and assume that that's what they want to do and you hear that they're not happy, but there's little stuff that they could probably be happier in."

Her friend, Ottoville sophomore Brooke Kortokrax, 16, agreed saying no one wants to be stuck in a career they do not like.

"You don't want to get into college and spend all this money and then get into the career and realize you don't like it, and then you just spend all your money and now you're stuck with something you didn't want to do," said Kortokrax.

You can keep a lookout for the next Career Exploring date on Lima Memorial's Facebook page.
