Religious leaders and community members of different faiths come to support the members of Temple Beth Israel Shaare Zedek, a week after the deadly attack at a Pittsburg Synagogue.

The temple invited the guests to take part in their Stand up for Shabbat service.  Clergy from different churches lit candles and laid down roses to remember the 11 worshipers at the Tree of Life Synagogue that were killed by a gunman last Saturday.  They also honored the black man and women who were killed at a Kroger grocery in Kentucky last month because of the color of their skin.

Rabbi Howard Stein hopes that the people who joined them tonight will realize that there is a common interest among faiths and hatred towards one group affects the entire society.

“While there may be a few people preaching bigotry, there are many thousands more preaching peace and understanding, says Rabbi Howard Stein of the Temple Beth Israel-Shaare zedek.  “It has certainly been a very difficult week.  But it’s been very encouraging to know the community; both the Jewish community and the wider community will come together at times of need.”

Rabbi Stein added that standing together against the hate forges a stronger community and a stronger nation.
