The future of a new City of Lima Information Technology department will have to wait.

The much-debated I.T. Department and hiring of a "Chief Technology Officer" failed Monday night on its third reading in Lima City Council Chambers.

Monday night's vote was again a 4 to 4 tie. That means back to the drawing board for the administration, which some councilors believe should be an appointed position by the Mayor. Four councilors, however, believe it should be a Civil Service filled position and have voted 'no' on creating the department, and there is also concern about the department's costs.

"Right now the ordinance is dead, I suspect that the future of the I.T. Department will be addressed in the mayor's estimate in December," said Council President John Nixon. "It will probably be discussed further as they go through the budget process in the beginning of the year."

Council received a request for a 50%,12-year tax abatement from a company looking to renovate two vacant, 4 unit apartment buildings at 500 to 514 Nova Street. The company plans to invest $342,000 to rehabilitate the buildings. If okayed, the project would be completed by August 2019.
