A lucky Wapakoneta Middle School student got a chance to spend the day with a four-legged police officer and learn a little more about what they do.

Adyson Krouse was the grand prize winner of a fundraiser held a couple of weeks ago in support of the future K-9 unit officer for the Wapakoneta Police Department. Because of this, she got to spend part of the day with Lieutenant Joseph Welker and K-9 Rico and witness training exercises used by the Wapakoneta Police Department. Exercises included a traffic stop with narcotics detection and a traffic stop with a fleeing criminal which happened to be Superintendent Aaron Rex.

"I knew that they did a lot but I didn't know quite what they did but yea there's a lot that they do," said Adyson Krouse. "There's a lot to do and it was really fun and really cool."

"All the kids were really excited. I had parents approaching me outside of work, at work, about how excited their kids were to do this and that they all couldn't wait and they needed money to support the fundraising event," commented Lt. Joseph Welker.
