The Allen County Department of Job and Family Services may be close to getting a new location.

The department along with Ohio Means Jobs Allen County is currently located on South Dixie Highway and combined see on average 2,000 people a month. Thursday, Allen County Department of Job and Family Services director Joe Patton presenting Allen County Commissioners with three requests for proposals of possible new locations for their offices. He is requesting that commissioners approve the proposal from Lima Memorial Health System for a 25-year lease of the current Heart Institute of Northwest Ohio. Patton believes the location of the building would be beneficial to those Job and Family Services and Ohio Means Jobs serve, it offers the technological capabilities they are in need of and it does so at a cost savings.

"It's a huge cost savings to us over our current, rent we're currently paying. It's a $150,000 a year that we're saving. Some of that will go into building maintenance because we're responsible for the building maintenance, but that will leave roughly a $100,000 that we can reinvest in the community, in services, jobs, and helping get people back to work and on their feet in Allen County," explained Joe Patton, Director of Allen County Job and Family Services.

The proposal from Lima Memorial is 7.6-million dollars over a 25-year lease with a one-dollar purchase option at the end. It will be funded by state and federal grants. No county dollars will be used. Commissioners are going to review the proposal and place it on their Tuesday agenda for consideration. If approved the move would happen in January of 2020.
