As the need for legal representation grows for those who cannot represent themselves, one local agency is doing everything they can to help.

Crime Victim Services hosted an informative session for those interested in becoming a guardian of the person, a volunteer who helps adults with healthcare, housing, and other daily living necessities. Crime Victim Services Guardian program director, Elysia Bush, said that Volunteers are in high demand because statewide there are not as many professional guardians available as there were in the past.

Bush said volunteers are in high demand because statewide there are not as many professional guardians available as there were in the past. Because of that, Bush said they are actively looking to add on as many volunteers who meet the criteria.

"In order to be a volunteer you have to have a heart for helping a person who is vulnerable, age 18 and older," said Bush. "Volunteers have to be 21 and older and have good character. They do have to go through a background check and they have to be willing to travel in the area to visit their person."

There are currently 506 active guardianship cases in Allen County. Beginning in January, Crime Victim Services will be hosting monthly informational guardian sessions that will be offered at noon and in the evening.
