A regional holiday tradition is setting the stage once again.

It's "The ONU Holiday Spectacular" musical extravaganza.

The show ushers in the holiday season and according to Raymond Cromley, who plays Tinsel, includes, "all your favorite Christmas songs. It's singing. It's dancing. It's just Christmas joy honestly in a show. It's a blast."

There are around 80 ONU students and 22 children in the cast.

Cromley says, "Oh it's amazing. The show has been going on 24 years. All of Lima practically comes out to see it. It's such an incredible community experience to be able to put this show on for people."

Many families have made this their Christmas tradition, but it also is a memorable time for the performers.

Darby Beckwith, who plays Mrs. Claus, says, "You get to see firsthand here how much the kids love it and how much the families love it. It's a family show. There's something for everyone. So I think it's really special as a performer to get to see that firsthand."

The performance is under the direction of Kirsten Osbun-Manley, who has been working on this show since the very beginning.

"We put this production together in approximately 16 rehearsals and had a different cast every time. There are some students that do return and are playing the same parts, but every year there are new students so that's the challenge to put this together in 16 rehearsals and that's a very short time period, " says Osbun-Manley.

The fun doesn't end once the curtains close.

Alison Campbell, who plays Trixel, says, "My favorite part is afterwards where the characters get to meet the little kids and their families and they can take a picture with us. I've seen us on a couple Christmas cards so it's really fun to see them."

There are many things about performing that the cast finds memorable.

"Don't take it for granted. You are making memories for so many families and that opportunity is just something you don't get every day," says Beckwith.

The show will be presented at the Lima Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center.

Performances are at 7:30pm Friday and Saturday and a matinee performance at 2:00pm Saturday and Sunday.
