Activities started Friday in downtown Wapakoneta as the Children's Hometown Holiday got underway.

This is the 12th year for the event and each year it has gotten bigger and better. This year you will even be able to ride a camel. Saturday's activities include a parade at 9:45 a.m. and Santa arrive at 10 a.m. The list of events is endless and organizers say they picked activities that are age appropriate for your children to truly enjoy their experience. Everything is free for the youngsters and a chance for them to enjoy themselves and feel loved.

"I think for those children who have nothing or next to nothing, this gives them hope and what better time of the year to give a child a present of hope. This is it," said Elaine Poppe, event organizer.

Poppe says it takes more than 400 volunteers to put on the Children's Hometown Holiday and thanks each and every one of them for their help. Saturday's events will go on rain or shine and you can find out more by going to their Facebook page and web page.
