This holiday season, local law enforcement is making sure that everyone in the family gets a Christmas gift.

79 kids traveled to Meijer from the Fraternal Order of Police Lima Lodge where they were paired with an officer so that they could shop for both Christmas presents and essentials. All of the money comes from community support. Since 2008, 627 children have benefited from the program.

"This is my favorite day of the year. I like this better than Christmas because the joy you see on the kids. It's a lot of work putting it together I  mean I've probably got 80 hours invested in it but it's worth it in the end," says Alan Mefferd, Trustee of the FOP.

The kids appreciated the gesture, as Noah Burkholder just couldn't wait to get shopping.

"I'm going to get myself a present"

Mefferd explains why he finds it so important to connect the youth with local officers.

"We're not bad guys. If they're in trouble, we want them to run to us and not away from us. So, we thought what better way then to show them our good side. And knowing that a lot of these kids were not going to have much a Christmas, we thought what can we do about that so we thought let's just take them shopping."

The event ended at the Fraternal Order of Police Lima Lodge where the kids had some lunch and wrapped their presents.
