In 2018, troopers statewide have made over 22,000 arrests for impaired driving. According to Lt. Tim Grigsby of the Lima command post, OVI arrests are up in the Lima area. They are on pace to eclipse 500 arrests for the first time in a decade. Grigsby also noted statewide for 2017, 35 percent of fatal crashes were due to impaired driving. In the Lima area, that number is down to under 25 percent this year. Grigsby advises drivers to plan ahead, buckle up and assign a designated sober driver.

"We do have some designated programs to try and put officers in place at optimal times to make sure that they're out looking for impaired driving types of violations," said Grigsby. "Get dangerous drivers off the road. We all share the same roads, so one impaired driver can put quite a few people at risk."

The area has seen an uptick in failure to yield violations and Grigsby added by planning ahead it could help decrease those numbers, as well.
