A Lima-area pastor was recognized by the Kiwanis Club of Lima for a heroic act that saved two women's lives.

Tuesday, Eleventh Street Missionary Baptist Church pastor, Robert Toney, was awarded the Robert P. Connelly Medal of Heroism for saving two women during a house fire back in June. This award is given to individuals who risk their lives to save someone else's.

On the day of the fire, Toney said he was at his mailbox when the spirit of God led him to bang on his neighbor's door to let them know the house was on fire. Within 10 minutes of entering the home, the pastor had rescued both of the women. Although Toney gives God the credit, he said he is honored to receive the award.

“It was very exciting,” said Toney. “It was something I had never received and also something I had never did of that nature. So with the greatness of God that was presented an honor to me for doing great work, saving two people lives.”

Toney is the fourth Lima recipient to receive this award. He was also recently awarded a medal from the Lima Fire Department for this heroic act.
