Students and staff at St. Gerard Catholic School chose to remember former President George H.W. Bush in a unique way.

Socks of all different colors and designs were donned by the students and staff. The reason for the different styles was from President Bush's practice of wearing novelty socks for different events and meanings. Evalyanne Smith, a professional assistant at St. Gerard, said that she got the idea for the "sock day" after reading about Bush's love for strange socks, and the reasoning behind them.

"It became meaningful for me not because they were crazy socks, but because he felt it was good to have a little bit of humor in all the things that go down in our lives to not to take everything so heavy, and so it made me happy to think that we can do this for him," Smith said.

President Bush will be buried in socks adorned with jets in formation - in tribute to his time as a naval aviator in World War II.
