Katie Gilhooly

Katie joined the sports team at WLIO in February of 2019. See has covered a wide variety of subjects during her time as a journalist. From national championship runs, to state titles, and even hurricanes, Katie has worked in many roles in television news.

Katie previously served as a producer and traffic reporter at CBS 42 in Birmingham, Alabama. While there she produced content for the CBS Morning News with Art Franklin. While in Birmingham, Katie produced shows that covered content that included two College Football Playoff National Championships, the Hoover Galleria Mall shooting, the shooting death of Birmingham Police Sergeant Wytasha Carter as well as the 2018 tornado that hit Jacksonville State University. Katie also to traveled to Panama City, Florida to cover the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, an experience she says was nothing short of life changing. 

Before making a stop in Birmingham, Katie served as the Weekend Sports Anchor at KTVO in Kirksville, Missouri. During her time in the "Show Me State," she covered an array of high school and college athletics that took her all over Northeast Missouri and Southeast Iowa. The highlight of her time at KTVO was following the Truman State University Men’s Basketball Team to Louisville, Kentucky during its first NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament appearance in 11 years.

A native of Decatur, Alabama, Katie attended The University of Alabama where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Information Sciences. In college, she spent two summers as a sports intern for WAFF 48 News in Huntsville, Alabama. Also while in at UA, she spent the fall of 2014 as a Production Operations Intern at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut. 

When she isn’t traveling the Buckeye State covering sports; you can find her cheering on the Chicago Cubs or, of course, the Alabama Crimson Tide, traveling or spending time with her family and friends.
