Alleged shoplifters were apprehended on the north side of Lima this afternoon.
This incident happened just before 1 p.m. Friday. The Allen County Sheriff's Office received a call from a local business around the Lima Mall in reference to an active shoplifter. Two suspects, a 51-year-old male and a 34-year-old female, fled the scene by vehicle. A sheriff's deputy located the vehicle on Latham Avenue where a traffic stop was attempted, but the suspects fled at a high rate of speed and turned north onto Cole Street. The chase continued until the suspect's vehicle took out a fire hydrant and hit a utility pole just north of Robb Avenue.
The female, and the male, who was driving, were transported to St. Rita's with minor injuries. The sheriff's office is not releasing the suspect's names or any potential charges against the man and woman at this time.
