The sale of some military vehicles could fund some capital projects for Allen County.
Commissioners giving the okay for the Allen County Sheriff's Office to sell six vehicles on an online auction, four Humvees and two MRAP(Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) trainers, that they received through the defense revitalization and marketing office of the Department of Defense. The equipment has been declared obsolete and the hope is the sale of these will generate some dollars for the capital improvement fund.
"Did some research on other similar vehicles that were sold, especially on the MRAP, an older model, a 1991 model, sold several years ago for over $38,000. The ones that we have are 2008 models," said Lt. Brett Rider, Allen County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Matt Treglia is requesting that a portion of the money raised goes toward a new LED sign for in front of the sheriff's office. The vehicles will be listed on www.govdeals.com. Rider says they are focusing on the movie industry to possibly purchase them.
