LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Hundreds of toys were collected Saturday at the Allentown Road Walmart during the Truckload of Toys event, helping the Salvation Army provide area children with a brighter Christmas.

Hometown Stations also contributed a $2,500 donation to assist the campaign in purchasing additional toys this year. The Toys for Tots campaign ensures presents reach approximately 500 families in the Lima area.

“Always older kids. That’s really one of the biggest things that it's hard to buy for because it starts getting more expensive when you get older kids. So, basically, the eight or 10 to 12 year olds that group age, and then Barbie dolls and dolls, we're running kind of short on those this year, amazingly enough, that's usually one of the highlights, but this year, it's one of the things we actually need," said Paul Downing, operations manager for the Lima Salvation Army.

Donations are still being accepted. Drop-off boxes around the area will be collected this week. Local businesses including Walmart and Kewpee Hamburgers provided coupons to thank donors for their contributions.
