LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — An April jury trial has been set for a man accused of engaging in a shootout with Lima police officers on Oct. 31.
The trial is scheduled to begin April 27 for Emerson Jeffrey, 35, who is facing four counts of felonious assault with multiple gun specifications, along with five other gun-related charges connected to the incident. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum sentence of more than 120 years in prison.
According to authorities, on Oct. 31, officers pulled over a vehicle Jeffrey was in. When officers approached the vehicle and ordered Jeffrey out of the car, “he fired at officers,” who then returned fire. Officer Bryce Metz was injured by gunfire, and so was Jeffrey. Both were treated and released from the hospital.
Jeffrey’s bond has been set at $2.5 million. He is currently being held in the Allen County Jail.
