Five people were injured in a two-car accident yesterday (1/10/19) afternoon at the intersection of Cable and Allentown roads.

The Lima Post of the State Patrol says around 4:20 p.m., 80-year-old Barbara Rope of Lima was southbound on Cable Road and at the intersection with Allentown Road, turned left into the path of a pickup truck driven by 19-year-old Christopher Shell of Lima.

Rope was taken to Lima Memorial with serious but not life-threatening injuries. The patrol reports Shell had minor injuries and was taken to St. Rita's. A passenger in his car, 19-year-old Victoria Horne had serious but not life-threatening injuries and was also taken to St. Rita's. Rope's vehicle had three children in the car. Two of them received minor injuries and were not taken to the hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports four people in this crash were not wearing a seatbelt and were injured. The accident remains under investigation.

Allen County – The Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle injury crash which occurred at the intersection of Cable Road and Allentown Road.

On January 10, 2019 at approximately 4:20 P.M., a 1994 Ford F-150, operated by Christopher A. Shell, age 19, of Lima, was traveling north on Cable Road approaching the intersection of Allentown Road. A 2011 Chevrolet Traverse, operated by Barbara E. Rope, age 80, of Lima, was traveling south on Cable Road and turned left into the path of Shell’s vehicle. Rope’s vehicle was struck on the right side by Shell’s vehicle.

Barbara Rope was transported by Shawnee Township EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital for serious, but non-life threatening injuries. There were three passengers in Rope’s vehicle. The front seat passenger, George Rope, age 11, of Lima, did not sustain injury and was found to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The right rear passenger, Richard Rope, age 11, of Lima, sustained minor injury, but was not transported and was found to not be wearing a seatbelt. The left rear passenger, Elizabeth Rope, age 7, of Lima, sustained minor injury, but was not transported and was found to not be in a required booster seat. The driver of the Ford, Christopher Shell, sustained minor injury and was transported to St. Rita’s Mercy Health by Lima EMS. Mr. Shell was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The front seat passenger in Shell’s vehicle, Victoria Horne, age 19, of Lima, sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to St. Rita’s Mercy Health by American Township EMS. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

 Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

The Lima Post was assisted by Lima Fire and EMS, Shawnee Township EMS, American Township EMS, Able’s Towing and A&D Towing. The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to always wear a properly adjusted seat belt which drastically reduces chances of major injury, and for children who meet the requirements be in a properly adjusted child safety seat or booster seat.

Details are few at this hour, concerning a two-car crash at the intersection of Cable and Allentown.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 6:21 p.m. Thursday night, involving a car and a pickup truck. Three people were taken from the scene for treatment, two were sent to St. Rita's while another was taken to Lima Memorial Hospital. There's no word on the extent of their injuries.

The crash tied up traffic at the intersection for over an hour.
