This year’s Distinguished Alumnus and Commencement Speaker is Elida 1985 graduate Mr. John Ondo who is an Emmy award winning documentary filmmaker. Ondo’s career began at WTLW while he was a freshman at Elida High School, and remained there for 18 years.

After moving to Columbus to work with several faith-based television ministries, he launched his company Ondo Media in 2009. Ondo has produced three documentaries for the Elida School District: "Reflections of Elida" won several awards and continues to be purchased by alumni with a portion of its proceeds being donated to the Elida scholarship fund. At the request of the Gomer Historical Society, Ondo began filming "Echoes of Gomer School" just before the school was permanently closed. "Echoes of Gomer School" was his first film to be recognized with an Ohio valley Emmy award. He also produced a documentary on the history of “The Story of Elida’s Kraft Memorial Stadium” which earned him another Emmy.
