Update: Media release from the Lima police Department 6:14 am Wednesday Sept. 10th

On 9/10/19 at approximately 12:30pm Lima Police Officers were notified of a shooting that occurred near the intersection of Elm and Nye.  The victim, later identified as 23 year old Savon Jackson of Lima, was transported from the scene to St Rita’s Mercy Health.  Savon sustained one gunshot wound to his lower back, the wound is not believed to be life threatening.  Officers from the LPD arrived on scene and located multiple shell casings within the intersection of Nye / Elm.  It is believed the suspect fired multiple rounds at the victim, while traveling in a vehicle on Nye.  The incident remains under investigation, and Detectives are following up on several tips.  Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Matt Boss at 419-812-0061 or Lima Allen County Crime Stoppers.

We're following a shooting that put one man in the hospital and our Eran Hami was live earlier at the scene where the shooting is believed to have happened.

When Eran arrived on scene Tuesday afternoon, the Nye and Elm street corner was littered with bullet casings, but outside that, we don't have too much information at this time. From what we were told by law enforcement, around 12:30 p.m., a man was dropped off at St. Rita's with a gunshot wound. Hospital staff alerted police that he may have been shot around Nye Street. After checking it out, police found several casings, blood in the street, and multiple houses with bullet holes.

Police aren't sure if there was more than one shooter and no weapons were found. They're now looking for the person who dropped off the victim at the hospital. Sgt. Jason Garlock described to Your Hometown Stations how they connected the pieces.

"We found multiple shell casings in the roadway. We found some of the residences in the area had bullet holes in them. Some of the witnesses that we spoke with, they gave us a pretty good idea of what we believe occurred at this time," commented Sgt. Jason Garlock.

Witnesses didn't want to go on camera but informed Eran that they saw a man running after being shot, hop in a car, and speed away. Anyone with more information is asked to call the Lima Police Department at (419) 227-4444.
