Monday night's Lima City Council meeting quickly heated up as businessman and former councilman, Ray Magnus, demanded Jamie Dixon resign, alleging Dixon does not live in the ward he represents.
Magnus said he launched an investigation into and has physical evidence showing that Jamie Dixon does not live in the 5th ward. Magnus gave councilors, and Your News Now, photos that Magnus said is evidence. On Wednesday night, Jamie Dixon sent Your News Now his response:
It has been my honor to serve the citizens of Lima, as your 5th Ward City Councilman over the past 11 months. As a son of this great City, It has been rewarding to work closely with citizens every day about the issues that concern them the most in partnership to improve our community. We have seen a lot of progress this year; including a revived Citizen Block Patrol Program, a renewed commitment to Community policing by LPD, and a real solution to the problem of food deserts in our area thanks to Activate Allen County and OSU Lima; and I want to personally thank all of those that have worked together to see this progress. However, there are many challenges ahead that we must continue to work together to address in the 5th Ward, including high levels of poverty, too many kids reading below grade level, and far too many people living in substandard housing; and as the 5th Ward City Council representative I plan to continue to roll up my sleeves and get in the trenches with my constituents and tackle these issues head-on. In response to the allegations of Ray Magnus, I have voluntarily submitted documents to the Law Director and I’m in compliance with local, state and federal laws. I ask the residents of the 5th Ward and Lima for their continued support by not just standing with me but by getting involved in your local government and your community by attending council meetings, joining a neighborhood association, and continuing to let your voice be heard. Together, we will build a stronger and positive community for all to live and work.
Councilman Jamie Dixon 5th Ward Representative
