Children from around the area prepared their fishing rod for this year's children's fishing derby near Grand Lake St. Marys.
This is an annual event held by the Lake Improvement Association for developmentally disabled children in the area, to visit the natural resources near the lake and spend the morning catching fish. Around 260 children took part in the event Wednesday morning and organizers say that the most fun part of the derby is the impression that it leaves on the kids.
"We see these kids in our communities throughout the year, and some of them even recognize you and remember you, so that's pretty special when you can have an impact on the kids the way that we do," said Jeff Bossler, a trustee with the Lake Improvement Association. "We've seen kids come back year after year after year for this event."
Kids from three counties participated in this year's event.
