LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Students and their families celebrated the end of the first nine weeks of school and were able to show off what they've learned.

Liberty Arts Magnet School threw a fall carnival to reward their students for all their hard work in the first part of the year. Kids could make seasonal crafts, learn about wildlife at the Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District's table, play plenty of games, and take home free books and educational materials.

Parents could also explore the building and see what projects and performances their children have been working on. Having student progress on display at the event helps get parents more involved in their child's education, and keeps kids motivated in the classroom.

"The students are thrilled to be able to show off their school building, where they go to school, where their classroom is, the work that's displayed in the halls, their performances. Having that to motivate the students, something to look forward to, knowing that their parents are going to be in the building is super exciting for them," explained Meghan Mulcahy, who teaches dance classes for kindergarten through 4th grade at Liberty Arts Magnet.
