LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Noon Optimist Club recognized one of their own for everything they've done in service to the community.
Cindy Nelson, the club's secretary-treasurer, was awarded Optimist of the Year at their annual charter party. She was nominated by her fellow members for being reliable, organized, and working hard to make events like the Safety City Trick or Treat, Home Show, and Youth Appreciation Awards successful. Nelson has been involved with the Lima Noon Optimists since 2010 and says that their mission of spreading positivity and helping others has always spoken to her.
"You know, if you're not giving back to the community you live in, you're not doing it any good. You need to be a part of that community and give back however you can because that's what's going to help the kids of the future and that's what's going to help make the community stronger every day," she said.
"Someone just has a good outlook on life. You know, we don't put people down, we try to find the best in people and lift them up. Lift up the youth in this community, that's really what it's about," added Paul Downing, the president of the Lima Noon Optimist Club.
The Optimists will be hosting their annual Home Show next weekend, March 8th-10th at the Allen County Fairgrounds.
